Hipcamp can help you find that camping hidden gem you’ve been searching for. The campsite booking platform has over 500,000 campsites and helps travelers quickly plan a dream destination even when busy travel periods like 4th of July weekend are upon us.

We caught up with Jenna Valdespino, Global Brand Marketing Lead at Hipcamp, to learn about why camping is having such a big moment including the key role technology is playing to enable campers - from solo adventurers and families - to enjoy the great outdoors!

Why is camping having such a big moment in 2025 and is technology enabling more campers to enjoy camping experiences?

We find that people are actively seeking memorable experiences, ones that allow them to unplug and get the kids off the tablets. The desire to disconnect to reconnect is very real. Camping checks all of these boxes, and, very importantly given rising travel costs, it’s also a budget-friendly option. Many camping options, even glamping, are often a fraction of the cost of hotel rooms, and road trips have always been a quintessential, low-cost summer vacation experience. Hipcamp’s filters and map tools help campers find the right campsites fast that fit both their wallet and lifestyle.

As the #1 app to find and book campsites, Hipcamp has always been rooted in using technology to get more people outside, unlock access to nature, and foster meaningful connections between people and the outdoors. We use data and technology to match campers with their perfect site, whether that’s on a mountain ranch, in a glamping yurt, or at an RV resort.

Behind the scenes, we also personalize our offerings for every camper—like letting them create detailed vehicle profiles, including rig length and setup details, so we can recommend sites that actually fit their needs. We can also tailor recommendations based on booking behavior, search history, and even camper sentiment in reviews. It’s all designed to make getting outside easier, more inspiring, and less stressful—no matter how you choose to camp.

What type of camping experiences are on the rise and how far in advance are travelers planning?

Family camping and RV road trips are gaining in popularity. Summertime sees a lot of last-minute bookings due to people finding themselves with free weekends to fill, while longer adventures are typically booked a few weeks out.

I love how Hipcamp unifies public, private, and unique stays via its app. What are some examples of the unique stays that you think are super cool and these sort of experiences on the rise?

We just recently released our inaugural list of Hipcamp’s 50 Favorite Places to Camp in America. These are standouts and hidden gems across 30 states, covering everything from an incredibly kid-friendly RV resort outside Zion (think playgrounds, multiple pools, and water slides) to a single, totally secluded group campsite set on 70 acres outside Asheville, North Carolina. Tent sites, farm experiences, cabins, private waterfalls—you name it, it’s covered, and they’re all among Hipcamp’s top-rated spots in the country.
