This week, Daily Travel Source is featuring Oahu’s beautiful resort, The Ambassador Waikiki, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. We caught up with the hotel’s General Manager, Brandon Kaya, to learn about its amazing location, must-try dishes, and fun experiences to enjoy while visiting the resort in Hawaii!
It's so exciting to hear that The Ambassador Hotel of Waikiki has joined Hilton as the first Tapestry Collection property in Hawaii! What are some of the new benefits that travelers can enjoy while staying at the hotel?
Joining Hilton’s Tapestry Collection marks an exciting new chapter as we continue to offer an authentic Waikiki experience, now enhanced with exclusive Hilton benefits. As a Hilton property, guests can now enjoy access to the Hilton Honors program, including points, perks and exclusive offers. Hilton Honors members who book directly through preferred Hilton channels receive access to instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider to combine points and money, free standard Wi-Fi, and access to digital tools available exclusively through the Hilton Honors app.
Oahu is one of my favorite Hawaiian islands and Waikiki offers such an amazing mix of culture, beauty and relaxation. What are some of the experiences that guests like to enjoy both on-site and off-site the property?
At The Ambassador Hotel of Waikiki, guests can unwind at the Waikiki Swim and Social Club, take part in our weekly poolside Pilates classes or enjoy island-inspired comfort food at Favorite Son. Just steps from the hotel, you’ll find iconic beaches, world-class shopping and the historic charm of Kalakaua Avenue. Take advantage of our complimentary bike rentals for a convenient way to explore the neighborhood.
I love that the hotel's restaurant, Favorite Son has both indoor and outdoor dining options! For all the foodies, what are some of your favorite dishes and drinks to try that showcase local flavors?
Favorite Son is a laid-back dining destination that celebrates Hawaii’s diverse flavors. A few standout menu favorites include the spinach & artichoke dip with tortilla chips, the baked penne alla vodka, and the Waipoli mixed greens salad. We also offer Pau Hana (happy hour) daily from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. featuring craft cocktails, snacks and live entertainment on Friday and Saturday. Signature cocktails include the POGstar Martini, which features a blend of passion fruit, orange and guava juices, and the HAPA Braddah, made with Koloa coffee, coconut rum and banana-ube foam.
What are the closest beaches to the hotel and are there any activities like surfing that guests can explore?
We’re just a short walk from Waikiki Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the world. It’s perfect for sunbathing, swimming or learning how to surf. For a lesson, we recommend the Jamie O’Brien School of Surf, located down the road at The Twin Fin Hotel. We also offer complimentary beach rentals through Beach Candy Waikiki for all the essentials you need to enjoy the sun, sand and surf!
Why is the hotel's location so unique to Oahu and are there other experiences that you'd recommend travelers explore at the hotel and on the island?
Our location at the gateway of Waikiki makes us a great home base for experiencing the neighborhood like a local. In addition to spending time on the beach, there are several nearby attractions, including hiking Diamond Head, exploring the Waikiki Aquarium or taking a stroll through Kapiolani Park.
