A Campspot and Pilot survey has found that over half of travelers say discovering hidden gems is the best part of a road trip.

2,000 road trippers participated and the survey gathered some really interesting insights! For example:

• 53 percent of travelers surveyed are planning more short trips or weekend getaways than in previous years.

• 58 percent of travelers are heading to lakes or beaches this summer, followed by mountains or national parks (51 percent) and charming small towns (48 percent)

To celebrate National Road Trip Day, Pilot has created a $15,000 giveaway inviting travelers to share what calls them to the open road this summer.
