Charlotte has evolved into one of the South's most exciting urban destinations. What do you think first-time visitors are most surprised to discover about the city?

First-time visitors often expect a serious financial district, so they are always intrigued by how green, walkable, and cultured the city is. Uptown isn't just corporate offices and convention buildings- there are sections framed by tree canopies, historic neighborhoods, and greenways like the Little Sugar Creek Trail running straight through the center. First-timers usually express their surprise by the sheer concentration of culture within a few blocks, from a theatre district to art museums and an exploding star-studded culinary scene. 

The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte is located in the heart of Uptown. What nearby attractions, neighborhoods or local experiences do you always recommend guests explore during their stay?

We are in the heart of Uptown, within walking distance from many popular attractions like the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, museums like the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the Mint Museum, and connected directly to the Overstreet Mall Skywalk System. We often recommend our guests check out whatever sporting event is around when they are in town (we have many teams here!) and to grab a pint or two at one of the many breweries in our craft beer scene. We also offer bike rentals and excursions to nearby destinations like Veronét Vineyards, the Reed Gold Mine, and the Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary. These can be booked directly with our concierge.

We recently opened Sweet July Cafe by Ayesha Curry which has been a hit by both guests and our locals. It’s an all day cafe where you can grab a small bite on the go or sit down for something indulgent like the soft serve sundaes. Our guests also love the bi-level penthouse spa which holds a Himalayan pink salt room and an indoor pool overlooking the skyline. We always have guests complimenting our fitness center too, which is a fun surprise and delight for health-conscious guests.
